In ancient Japan, misogi was a ritual of purification—standing beneath a freezing waterfall, chanting prayers, and cleansing the spirit through discomfort. They understood that doing something challenging, physically and mentally, would make you stronger on the other side. You create disciple, you find out who you are, you ground yourself from distractions, you build resilience and improve your self-confidence.
In today’s world, most of us don’t stand under waterfalls, but the need for misogi hasn’t disappeared. If anything, it’s more important than ever. In a time of comfort addiction and endless distraction, misogi reminds us that we were not designed to be comfortable. It reminds us that if we want to progress, we must face obstacles. It reminds us that growth doesn't happen without hard work.
That’s what this page will be about.
Each month, I’m going to perform a misogi. It might be physical—like a long-distance hike or a cold plunge—or mental—like fasting from comfort, technology, or, again, a cold plunge . It might be a one day event or something that will compound over a month. With each challenge comes context, tips, check-ins, and a space for you to share your own journey. This is about choosing discomfort on PURPOSE and becoming stronger through it.
If you want to build discipline, sharpen your edge, and help cultivate a relationship with yourself then these challenges are for you. Find yourself amongst like-minded people, who are working to become a better version of themselves and let’s build a community of Purposeful beings.
So if you’re ready to take part, to stretch your limits and surprise yourself every month, I invite you to join the Misogi circle. Let's take Purpose action into a better life.
Stay tuned for the first Misogi coming up for July!
