Health has become incredibly complicated.
I believe it is actually pretty simple.
Over the years, I’ve organized health into what I call the 9 Pillars of Health. Each pillar represents an area of life that contributes to your physical and mental well-being.
You don’t need to master all nine overnight. The more you work on them, the more benefits you get in return.
But we should start small. This is a list of small steps to take, 1 for each Pillar. They’re simple enough for anyone to start today, but powerful enough to change your life if you stick with them.

🌬️ Breath
Meditate for five minutes every morning.
You don’t need a fancy app or years of practice.
Just sit somewhere quiet, breathe, and notice your thoughts without trying to control them.
Five minutes is enough to begin building awareness, reducing stress, and creating a little space before the day takes over.
**BONUS POINTS: Add a breathing method, like Box Breathing.
💧 Water
Carry a water bottle wherever you go.
Hydration is one of the easiest wins in health, yet one of the most overlooked.
If water is always within reach, you’ll naturally drink more without thinking about it.
Sometimes the best habit is simply making the healthy choice the convenient one.
**BONUS POINTS: Add electrolytes.
☀️ Sunlight
Take a 10 to 15 minute walk after lunch.
This might be my favorite habit on the list.
You’ll get natural light, move your body, improve digestion, clear your mind, and break up long periods of sitting.
One small walk. Five benefits.
**BONUS POINTS: Do this 3 times a day (morning-lunch-afternoon).
😴 Sleep
Treat every hour of sleep before midnight as if it counts double.
Whether or not the math is literally true isn’t the point.
The lesson is.
Most people focus on sleeping in. Instead, focus on getting to bed earlier.
Protect your evenings, and your mornings become much easier.
**BONUS POINTS: Still get your 8 hours.
🧠 Wisdom
Read ten pages every day.
Knowledge compounds.
Ten pages might not sound like much, but over the course of a year you’ll finish books that can completely change the way you think.
Small daily investments often produce the biggest long-term returns.
**BONUS POINTS: Add a puzzle like sudoku, crossword, word-find.
🤝 Relationships
Have a meal with a friend every two weeks.
Health isn’t just physical.
Strong relationships improve happiness, resilience, and even longevity.
Make time for the people who matter.
Your body and your mind will thank you.
**BONUS POINTS: Make it a lunch. You will likely eat healthier options with no alcohol.
🥗 Digestion
Have a piece of fruit after lunch and dinner.
Instead of focusing on what to eliminate, start by adding something beneficial.
Fruit satisfies a sweet tooth, increases your fiber intake, and often replaces processed desserts naturally.
Sometimes addition works better than restriction.
**BONUS POINTS: Switch the sweet breakfast food (pancake, cereal, syrup, etc.) for something fruity (yogurt, jam, honey, etc).
🧭 Mindset
Keep a daily journal.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.
Write what you’re grateful for.
Write one thing you learned.
Write your biggest priority for tomorrow.
Three minutes of reflection can create a surprising amount of clarity.
**BONUS POINTS: Write about important things like goals, dreams, people.
🏃 Movement
Spend five to ten minutes moving every morning.
Stretch.
Walk.
Do a few squats.
Mobilize your joints.
It doesn’t matter what you choose.
The goal isn’t to get a workout in before breakfast.
The goal is to remind your body that it was built to move.
**BONUS POINTS: Pick up a physical hobby like tennis, climbing, surfing, etc.
Start Small
Looking at all nine habits might feel overwhelming. But you don’t have to be perfect, do them all at once or completely change your routine.
Just pick one and do it consistently until it becomes automatic.
Then add another.
Health isn’t built through heroic efforts.
It’s built through ordinary actions repeated for years.
One habit at a time.
One pillar at a time.
Onward,
Matheus Silva
